The Queen and King of Ephedia
Asked for a long time, here they are, finaly ! The models for the Queen and King of Ephedia !
While creating thoses, we had to wonder “Who are Iris’ parents ? Where does her beauty, courage and selflessness comes from ?”. Therefore, we wanted both of her parents to have these qualities, and tried to put them in their models.
We also wanted the physical resemblance between Iris and her mother to be obvious. (even Gramorr states that Iris has her mother’s eye in some episode). The Queen can be seen as a possible future for Iris. ;)
To answer a question receveid before “who rules Ephedia ? The King of the Queen ?”, the answer is “The Queen”. Jean-Louis wanted Ephedia to be a “Queendom” more than a “Kingdom” : therefore it’s the Queen, who wears the crown of absolute power, and rules with wisdom, magic, justice, etc. It also explains why it’s up to magical “princesses” to save the day, rather than “princes”.
The King was supposed to be her protector, and protector of the realm, so more a (royal) knight type of person rather than a ruler.
You can see that the models didn’t evolved much from our researches to the final drawings. Little color and eyeshape adjustements for the Queen, More significant changes for the King, starting with his cape, but overall we followed our first draft’s direction.
